Continued Efforts in Trinidad for International Non-profit

Rock Hill, SC, USA – June 10, 2022 – The international nonprofit Family Agriculture Resources Management Services (F.A.R.M.S.), was happy to provide over 25 rural farmers with hand, electric and gas tools to run a more efficient farm operation. With the assistance of Pete Charlerie, F.A.R.M.S., Caribbean Program Manager a native of Arima, Trinidad we were able to provide nearly 5,000 lbs. of melons and other fruits to the Bridge of Hope Center, Casade Corazon Center, and the Memisa Centre. All three centers are homes to children, disabled adults and the elderly. According to Charlerie “inconsistent water supply has been a barrier for farmers during the dry season, the tools we provided reduced labor and increased yields.”

Additionally, F.A.R.M.S., was able to convert two storage facility over into a refrigeration facility for two local fisherman Mr. Julian Lafond of Arima and Mr. Dominic Reyes of Valencia, Trinidad. Both Mr. Lafond and Mr. Reyes stated having the refrigeration units would increase the shelf life of their fish harvest by weeks, thereby increasing their yearly revenue.

F.A.R.M.S. is an international nonprofit organization that provides legal services to rural farmers to retain the land for future family farmers while reducing hunger in the farmers community.

“Since 2015 we have been providing services to various Caribbean nations, the need has increased.Thefact that most Caribbean nations are dependent on US imports leaves many citizens vulnerable, proves the need is great” said Jillian Hishaw, Founding Director of F.A.R.M.S.

Since its inception in 2013, F.A.R.M.S., has purchased and donated nearly two million pounds of produce, provided nearly $500,000 in emergency aid to famers and have save rural farms from foreclosure. The multi-award-winning organization was also recently awarded grant funding from the MacArthur Foundation and the Jrue and Lauren Holiday Foundation.
